Tenants, beware scammers
It has come to the attention of Guernsey Landlords (GPRLA) that there are still scammers around posing as absentee landlords trying to get deposits without the tenant even viewing a property.
Beware of this. There are scammers who try to take advantage of tenants desperate to find accommodation due to the current housing shortage.
Reputable landlords would not expect a deposit until the tenant has viewed the property, and fully read and agreed the terms of the lease. Absentee landlords would usually use a local agent, and a deposit is normally paid on signing of the lease by both tenant and landlord or his agent on his behalf.
If you have any suspicions that the approach is not genuine, do not part with your money.
